Devon Wildlife Trust
Cricklepit Mill on Commercial Road, Exeter is the headquarters for the Devon Wildlife Trust, a registered conservation charity concerned with protecting wildlife in Devon for the future. Cricklepit Mill is also a restored working watermill, open to the public Monday to Friday 9:00am-5:00pm throughout the year (except Christmas and bank holidays). Cricklepit first started milling in Exeter in 1220 and is the last working watermill in Exeter to survive into the 21st Century. Cricklepit now hosts monthly milling days which offer the general public the opportunity to see this beautifully restored watermill grinding grain for flour in the traditional way using 19th Century machinery and waterwheels. These milling days are usually on the second Friday of every month from10:00am-12 noon, although there are also a few Saturday events throughout the year. Stone-ground whole-meal flour produced at the mill is available to buy in reception. Please see web site for more information or call the Devon Wildlife Trust on 01392 279244. Entrance to the mill and wildlife garden is free but donations are always welcome. Groups are welcome but please call in advance to arrange a tour.
